Actinomycosis is a chronic, bacterial infection of the soft tissues and organs caused by the bacteria Actinomyces. It is also known as “lumpy jaw” due to the formation of hard, lumpy masses in the face, throat, chest, and abdomen. Commonly, this condition is also referred to as “lumpy-jaw” or “wooden tongue” due to the presence of these lumps. Symptoms of actinomycosis can include fever, chills, fatigue, weight loss, and night sweats. Treatment typically involves antibiotics and, in some cases, surgery.

Actinomycosis is a bacterial infection that is caused by a certain type of Actinomyces bacteria, which is commonly found in the mouth, throat, and intestines. The infection can spread to other parts of the body, such as the lungs, skin, and abdomen. It can cause abscesses and large, hard masses that can be difficult to treat. Commonly, this infection is referred to as "lumpy jaw" due to the characteristic lumpy swellings that form in the face or jaw. Treatment usually involves a combination of antibiotics and surgery.

Actinomycosis is a bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces species, which are gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria. It is also known as “lumpy jaw” because one of the most common clinical presentations of the infection is a localized abscess in the jaw. Other common names for this condition include ray fungus disease, lumpy jaw, and struma lymphostatica.

Actinomycosis can affect many different parts of the body, including the lungs, abdomen, and skin. Symptoms vary depending on the location of the infection, but can include fever, fatigue, night sweats, weight loss, abdominal pain, and a lump in the affected area.

The diagnosis of actinomycosis is usually made based on medical history, physical examination, and laboratory testing. Treatment typically consists of a combination of antibiotics and surgical drainage and/or removal of any abscesses.

In summary, actinomycosis is a bacterial infection caused by Actinomyces species, and is also known by many other names, including “lumpy jaw”, ray fungus disease, lumpy jaw, and struma lymphostatica. Treatment typically consists of a combination of antibiotics and surgical drainage and/or removal of any abscesses.

It is caused by a type of bacteria called Actinomyces, which is commonly found in the mouth and the intestines of humans. Commonly, the infection is referred to as “lumpy jaw” because the bacteria can cause swelling, pain, and lumps in the face, neck and jaw area. In more serious cases, the infection can spread to other parts of the body and cause abscesses. Treatment usually involves antibiotics and surgical drainage of any abscesses.
