What is ligature mark in asphyxial death

I'm hoping someone can help me out - I'm trying to learn more about asphyxial death and I've heard of something called a ligature mark. What is a ligature mark and how does it relate to asphyxial death? Is it something the medical examiner looks for when investigating a death? Is it indicative of a particular cause of death? Any insight or resources that anyone has on this topic would be much appreciated.

Ligature mark in asphyxial death is a type of injury that occurs when a person is strangled or suffocated to death. It is generally found around the neck, wrists, and/or ankles of the victim. The mark is usually caused by the ligature, such as a rope, belt, or cord, that was used to strangle or suffocate the victim. In some cases, the ligature mark may also be visible on the face and/or chest of the victim. Ligature marks can provide important evidence in a criminal investigation, as they can help to establish the cause of death and can be used to help identify the perpetrator.
