Hello everyone! I'm new here and I'm curious to know more about level 2 autism. I've heard it's a mild form of autism, but I'm not sure what it really is or how it's diagnosed. Does anyone have any experience with this type of autism or know of any resources I can look into? I'd really appreciate any help or advice you can offer.

Diagnosis of Level 2 Autism

Level 2 autism is usually diagnosed by a team of professionals that includes a pediatrician, psychologist, and other specialists. The team will evaluate the individual and their behavior, and consider factors such as family history, developmental history, and medical history. A diagnosis of level 2 autism requires that all criteria for level 1 autism are met, as well as additional criteria that are specific to level 2 autism.

Treatment of Level 2 Autism

Treatment for level 2 autism typically includes a combination of behavioral interventions, educational interventions, and social skills training. Treatment plans should be individualized to the person’s specific needs and should include the involvement of family members and other caregivers. Level 2 autism, formally referred to as "moderate autism," is the second level of autism severity as classified by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Individuals at this level typically demonstrate significant difficulty with communication, social interaction, and restricted, repetitive behaviors. They may have difficulty understanding social cues, and difficulty initiating and sustaining conversations. They may also exhibit repetitive behaviors such as hand flapping, echolalia, and body rocking. With the right support, however, individuals at this level can learn to better manage their challenges and live successful lives.
