"Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I'm hoping someone can help me out with a question I have about ALT alarming levels. I've heard that there is an alarming level for ALT, but I'm not sure what it is. Can anyone tell me what this level is, and why it is important to know? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ALT stands for Alanine Transaminase, an enzyme found in the liver. The ALT level is an important measure in the diagnosis of liver disease and damage. The normal ALT range is usually between 7 and 55 units per liter (U/L). An ALT level that is significantly higher than normal may indicate damage to the liver due to a variety of causes, such as viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, or drug toxicity. When the ALT level is more than three times the upper limit of normal, it is considered an alarming level. Liver biopsy may be recommended to determine the cause.
