"Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me out with this question I have about AIHA in infancy. I'm a parent of a newborn and heard about AIHA, but I'm not sure what it is exactly or how it might affect my baby. Does anyone have experience with AIHA in infancy, or know of any resources I can look into? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

AIHA stands for Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia and is a rare condition in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys red blood cells. This can lead to anemia, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, shortness of breath, and pale skin. In infancy, AIHA is usually caused by a maternal antibody that is passed to the baby. AIHA can also be caused by certain medications, infections, or other immune system disorders. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause and severity of symptoms. Treatment options may include corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and/or blood transfusions.
