A compound odontoma is a benign tumor composed of dental tissue that develops from a single tooth germ. It is the most common type of odontogenic tumor and is found most commonly in the maxilla, or upper jawbone. This type of tumor is composed of both enamel and dentin, as well as hard and soft tissues that are similar to normal tooth structures. It is usually asymptomatic and can be diagnosed with an X-ray. Treatment usually consists of surgical removal of the tumor to prevent further growth or infection.
