I'm hoping some of the members here can help me out. I recently heard about something called a bursa in the jaw joint and I'm not sure what it is. Could someone please explain it to me? What is its purpose? Does it cause any symptoms or is it just something that exists in the jaw joint? Is it common or rare? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

A bursa in the jaw joint is a fluid-filled sac located between the bones of the jaw. It acts as a cushion or shock absorber, allowing the bones to move smoothly without causing friction or irritation. The bursa can become inflamed due to injury or overuse, leading to pain and swelling. Treatment typically involves rest, ice, medications, and physical therapy. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the bursa.
