Preparation of the Body
When a body is brought to the mortuary, the first step is to prepare it for the funeral. This involves cleaning the body, dressing it in appropriate clothing, and sometimes the use of mortuary makeup to give the body a natural appearance. In some cases, the mortuary may also use embalming fluid to help preserve the body over a longer period of time.
Cremation
Cremation is a common practice in many countries, and it is often available at the mortuary. During cremation, the body is placed in a chamber and heated until it is reduced to ashes. Depending on the wishes of the deceased and their family, the ashes may be scattered or placed in an urn for permanent burial.
Storing the Body
In some cases, the body may need to be stored in the mortuary for a period of time. This may be due to a delay in the funeral, or if the body needs to be kept for further examination or investigation. In these cases, the body is typically placed in a refrigerated unit to help preserve it.
Funeral Services
The mortuary can also provide services for the funeral. This may include arranging the funeral or providing a viewing room for family members to pay their respects. In some cases, the mortuary may even provide a chapel for larger funerals.
