I'm really hoping someone can help me out here. I'm trying to understand what enzyme is AST and I'm having some difficulty. I've done a lot of reading online, but I'm still not sure what it is or how it works. Is anyone familiar with this? Could you please explain it to me in simple terms? I would really appreciate any help or advice anyone can offer.

AST is an abbreviation for aspartate aminotransferase, which is an enzyme produced in the liver. It is used to check for liver damage or disease. Elevated levels of AST in the blood indicates that there is damage to the liver cells, which can be caused by several conditions including viral hepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and some other liver diseases.
