I'm hoping someone can help me out with this question: What does pure carbon dioxide smell like? I'm just curious because I've heard that carbon dioxide has a strong odor, but I'm not sure if it's true. Does anyone know what pure carbon dioxide smells like? Has anyone ever smelled it before? Are there any particular characteristics to the smell, like a chemical or sulfur-like scent? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Pure carbon dioxide does not have any smell. Carbon dioxide is a colorless, odorless gas at normal temperatures and pressures. However, when carbon dioxide is dissolved in water, it forms carbonic acid, which has a distinct odor. Carbonic acid is described as having a slightly sour smell, similar to vinegar.
