Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about Paget disease of the breast? I'm specifically looking for information on what it looks like. From what I've read, it's a rare form of breast cancer that affects the skin of the nipple and/or areola, but I'd really like to hear more from someone who has seen it firsthand.

If you have any information or advice on this topic, I'd really appreciate it! Thank you in advance for your help.

What is Paget's Disease of the Breast?

Paget's disease of the breast is a rare form of breast cancer that affects the nipple and areola, the pigmented area around the nipple. It causes the nipple to become red, scaly, and itchy. The areola may also become flaky or have a lumpy texture. In some cases, there may also be a discharge from the nipple.

What are the Symptoms of Paget's Disease of the Breast?

The main symptom of Paget’s disease of the breast is an area of red, scaly, and itchy skin on the nipple and areola. The area may also have a lumpy texture and may be tender to the touch. In some cases, a milky or bloody discharge may be present.

What are the Causes of Paget's Disease of the Breast?

The exact cause of Paget’s disease of the breast is unknown. It is believed to be related to an underlying cancer in the breast, which is often an invasive ductal carcinoma. In some cases, Paget’s disease of the breast may be the first sign of breast cancer.

How is Paget's Disease of the Breast Diagnosed?

Paget’s disease of the breast is usually diagnosed with a physical exam and a biopsy of the affected area. The biopsy will help to determine if the area is cancerous or not. If cancer is present, further tests may be needed to determine the type and stage of the cancer.

How is Paget's Disease of the Breast Treated?

Treatment for Paget’s disease of the breast depends on the type and stage of the cancer. Treatments can include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy. In some cases, a combination of treatments may be used.

Paget's disease of the breast is an uncommon type of breast cancer that affects the nipples and areolas. It typically appears as a red, scaly rash that may itch, burn, or become painful. There may be a discharge from the nipples that is yellow or bloody. The areolas may become enlarged or flattened and the nipples may become inverted. In some cases, the rash can spread to other parts of the breast, or even the chest wall. It is important to seek medical attention if any of these symptoms are present.

Paget disease of the breast is a rare form of cancer that affects the skin of the nipple and/or the areola. It typically presents as a scaly, red rash on the nipple or areola that may be itchy and/or painful. The rash may be accompanied by flaking, peeling, or crusting of the skin. In some cases, a yellowish discharge may also be present.

The disease is most commonly found in older women, however it can affect men and women of all ages. In some cases, Paget disease of the breast may be associated with an underlying cancer of the breast, so it is important to have any suspicious rashes or changes in the skin of the nipple and areola evaluated by a healthcare provider.

In advanced cases of Paget disease of the breast, the affected skin may become thickened and discolored. The nipple may become inverted and the areola may become enlarged. In extreme cases, the breast tissue may harden and become lumpy.

It is important to keep in mind that Paget disease of the breast can mimic other skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, so it is important to have any suspicious changes in the skin of the nipple and areola evaluated by a healthcare provider. Treatment for Paget disease of the breast typically involves surgery to remove the affected tissue, and may be followed up with radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy in some cases.
