I am searching for information about what the enzyme AST does in the body. Could anyone help me out? I am hoping to learn more about how this enzyme affects health and any potential risks associated with it. Has anyone here had any experience with AST or know of any resources I could consult to learn more? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated.

AST is short for aspartate transaminase, an enzyme found in the liver, heart, and other organs. AST helps the body break down proteins and other molecules for energy and other processes. It is released into the bloodstream when the liver or other bodily organs are damaged. High AST levels in the blood can indicate a liver or heart problem, such as hepatitis or a heart attack. Doctors may use AST tests to diagnose and monitor these conditions.
