What does asphyxiated mean in medical terms

I'm hoping someone can help me with this question. What does asphyxiated mean in medical terms? I'm not a medical professional, but I've been hearing this term more and more frequently and I'm curious to know what it means. I know that asphyxiation has something to do with not having enough oxygen, but what does it mean in a medical context? Are there any other medical terms related to it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Asphyxiated is a medical term for when oxygen is cut off from the body and the individual experiences difficulty breathing. It is also known as suffocation or strangulation. Asphyxia can result from a number of different causes, including choking, drowning, or exposure to hazardous gases or smoke. It can lead to unconsciousness and even death if not treated quickly. Symptoms of asphyxia include rapid breathing, confusion, and blue-tinged skin. Treatment for asphyxia includes providing oxygen, performing CPR, and providing medical support.
