What does a positive DAT mean

"Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to get some help from the forum about what a positive DAT (dye test agglutination) result means.

I recently had a DAT test done and received a positive result, and I'm trying to understand what that means. I haven't been able to find much information about what a positive DAT result indicates, or what I should do next.

Can anyone provide some insight? I would really appreciate it if I could get some advice from other users on this forum.

A positive Direct Antiglobulin Test (DAT) result means that the patient has antibodies or complement proteins attached to their red blood cells. This attachment is known as sensitization. Sensitization can occur when a person has been exposed to a foreign antigen, such as a blood transfusion or a pregnancy. A positive DAT result can indicate that a person has an immune system disorder, has recently been exposed to a foreign antigen, or has a type of anemia caused by autoimmune destruction of red blood cells.
