"Has anyone ever had experience with a narcissist and what destroyed them eventually? I'm looking for advice on how to deal with someone who is extremely narcissistic and it seems like no matter what I do, they still remain in control.

Narcissism is a personality disorder characterized by an excessive need for admiration, an inflated sense of self-importance, and an inability to recognize the feelings of others. Narcissists are often seen as arrogant, selfish, and manipulative. While it may seem like there is no way to destroy a narcissist, there are some strategies that can be used to help them to recognize their unhealthy behavior and make changes.

Understanding Narcissism

Narcissists tend to have an inflated sense of their own importance and believe that they are better than everyone else. They may lack empathy and be unwilling to recognize the feelings or needs of others. They may also be overly sensitive to criticism and become defensive or aggressive when confronted.

Identifying Narcissistic Behavior

Narcissists often display a range of behaviors that can be difficult to identify. They may manipulate or exploit others in order to get what they want, or they may take advantage of others to boost their own self-esteem. They may also be arrogant or boastful, or try to control conversations and situations. It is important to be aware of these behaviors in order to recognize when someone is displaying narcissistic traits.

Challenging Narcissistic Behavior

One of the most effective ways to deal with a narcissist is to challenge their behavior in a respectful and assertive manner. This can be done by setting boundaries and making it clear that certain behaviors are not acceptable. It is also important to be firm and not allow the narcissist to manipulate the situation.

Seeking Professional Help

In some cases, it may be beneficial to seek professional help in order to address the underlying issues that are causing the narcissistic behavior. A therapist can help to identify the underlying causes of the behavior and provide strategies to help the narcissist to manage it more effectively.

Using Compassion and Empathy

It is important to remember that narcissists are often dealing with underlying issues such as low self-esteem, insecurity, and a lack of self-worth. It can be helpful to approach the situation with compassion and empathy in order to help the narcissist to recognize their unhealthy behavior and make changes.

Conclusion

Narcissism can be a difficult personality disorder to deal with, but it is possible to help a narcissist to recognize their unhealthy behavior and make changes. Challenging their behavior in a respectful and assertive manner, seeking professional help, and using compassion and empathy can all be effective strategies for dealing with a narcissist.
