What Cancers Cause Microcytic Anemia?

Microcytic anemia is a type of anemia characterized by abnormally small red blood cells. It can be caused by a variety of underlying conditions, including certain cancers. In this article, we will discuss some of the cancers that can cause microcytic anemia.

Leukemia
Leukemia is a type of cancer that affects the blood and bone marrow. It is characterized by an abnormal production of white blood cells. Leukemia can cause microcytic anemia due to the overproduction of immature white blood cells, which can decrease the production of normal red blood cells.

Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that affects the plasma cells in the bone marrow. It can cause microcytic anemia due to the destruction of red blood cells by the cancer cells.

Hodgkin's Lymphoma
Hodgkin's lymphoma is a type of cancer that affects the lymphatic system. It can cause microcytic anemia due to the destruction of red blood cells by the cancer cells.

Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)
Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) is a type of cancer that affects the bone marrow. It can cause microcytic anemia due to the production of abnormal red blood cells by the cancer cells.

Thalassemia
Thalassemia is a type of anemia that is inherited. It is caused by mutations in the genes that control the production of hemoglobin. Thalassemia can cause microcytic anemia due to the production of abnormal hemoglobin.

Iron Deficiency Anemia
Iron deficiency anemia is a type of anemia caused by an insufficient amount of iron in the body. It can cause microcytic anemia due to the decreased production of red blood cells.
