Hey everyone,

I'm new here and I'm looking for some help. I recently had some blood tests done and my AST levels were higher than normal. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what can cause AST levels to spike? I'd really appreciate any advice or information anyone can provide on this topic.

What is AST?

Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) is an enzyme found in the liver, heart, and other organs. High levels of AST can indicate liver damage or disease, such as hepatitis or cirrhosis, as well as other conditions, such as heart attack or muscle injury.

What can cause AST levels to be high?

High levels of AST can be caused by a variety of conditions, including:

• Alcohol consumption

• Viral hepatitis

• Certain medications, such as acetaminophen

• Liver disease, such as cirrhosis

• Heart attack or muscle injury

• Gallbladder disease

• Pancreatitis

• Certain cancers, such as liver or pancreatic cancer

• Autoimmune diseases, such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis

How can I lower my AST levels?

If your AST levels are high, your doctor may recommend lifestyle changes or medications to help reduce your levels. Lifestyle changes may include avoiding alcohol, exercising regularly, and eating a healthy diet. Your doctor may also prescribe medications to help reduce your AST levels.
