Hey everyone,

I am looking for some help understanding the different types of strangulation forensic medicine. Does anyone have any information they can share about this topic? Any knowledge or experience with this type of forensic medicine would be helpful. I have been researching it online, but I'm still having trouble understanding the different types and how they are used in forensic medicine. Any advice or insight would be much appreciated.

Types of Strangulation in Forensic Medicine

Strangulation is a type of injury that results from compressing the neck, and it is a very serious form of trauma that can cause death. In forensic medicine, there are several types of strangulation depending on the type of force used to constrict the neck.

Mechanical Strangulation is the most common type of strangulation and involves constriction of the neck by an external force. This type of strangulation is typically caused by a ligature, such as a rope, cord, belt, or other material, that is tightened around the neck and restricts airflow.

Manual Strangulation is a type of strangulation caused by the use of hands or arms to compress the neck and restrict airflow. This type of strangulation can also be caused by a chokehold or a headlock.

Throttling is a type of strangulation that occurs when the neck is compressed by the force of two hands, arms, or legs. This type of strangulation can also be caused by a headlock or chokehold.

Strangulation by Pressure is a type of strangulation that occurs when the neck is compressed by the force of an external object, such as a wall. This type of strangulation is typically caused by a person being pressed against a wall or other hard surface.

Asphyxiation is a type of strangulation caused by the restriction of oxygen to the body. This can occur when the airway is blocked or when the body is deprived of oxygen due to a lack of air or the presence of toxic gases. Asphyxiation can also occur due to strangulation.

Hanging is a type of strangulation caused by suspending a person from a noose or ligature. This type of strangulation is typically caused by a person being hanged, although it can also be caused by a person being suspended from a rope or other object.
