Asphyxiation is a condition in which the body does not receive enough oxygen, which can lead to serious health problems and even death. There are two main types of asphyxiation: mechanical and chemical.
Mechanical Asphyxiation
Mechanical asphyxiation occurs when the airways are blocked by a foreign object, such as a pillow or a plastic bag. In this type of asphyxiation, the airways are blocked, preventing the person from receiving oxygen and leading to unconsciousness and death.
Chemical Asphyxiation
Chemical asphyxiation occurs when a person is exposed to toxic gases, such as carbon monoxide or hydrogen sulfide. These gases interfere with the body’s ability to use oxygen, leading to an inability to breathe. Prolonged exposure to these gases can lead to death.
