What are the two leading causes of blindness

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some help with understanding what the two leading causes of blindness are. I recently heard from a friend that the two leading causes of blindness are cataracts and glaucoma, but I am not sure if that is correct. Could anyone please provide some more information on this topic? Are there any other causes of blindness that are more common than cataracts and glaucoma? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Cataracts and Glaucoma:
Cataracts

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness and visual impairment in adults over 40. They are caused when proteins in the eye lens become damaged and clouded, blocking out light and blurring vision. Cataracts can be treated with surgery, which involves replacing the clouded lens with a clear artificial lens.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and visual impairment. It is caused by an increase in the pressure inside the eye, which damages the optic nerve. Glaucoma can be treated with medications and surgery to reduce eye pressure and prevent further damage.

The two leading causes of blindness worldwide are cataracts and glaucoma. Cataracts occur when the eye's clear lens becomes clouded, causing blurry vision and eventually blindness. Glaucoma is caused by damage to the optic nerve, which can lead to vision loss and blindness. Both of these conditions can be treated with surgery, medication, and lifestyle changes, but early detection is key to preventing permanent vision loss.

The two leading causes of blindness worldwide are cataracts and glaucoma. Cataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes clouded, reducing vision over time. Glaucoma is caused by increased pressure in the eye, which can damage the optic nerve and lead to blindness. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent vision loss from both conditions, so regular eye exams are important for maintaining good eye health.

The two leading causes of blindness worldwide are cataracts and glaucoma. Cataracts occur when the eye's lens becomes cloudy, blocking light from entering the eye and preventing clear vision. Glaucoma is an eye disease in which the pressure inside the eye increases, damaging the optic nerve and eventually leading to blindness. Both conditions can be treated with surgery, if caught early enough. However, lack of access to eye care in developing countries can lead to an increased number of blindness cases due to these two conditions. Therefore, many organizations are making an effort to increase the availability of eye care to people in need.
