Symptoms of High CO2 Levels

High levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) can cause a wide range of symptoms. The most common and immediate symptom is difficulty breathing, which can be accompanied by rapid shallow breathing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Other symptoms of high CO2 levels include fatigue, lightheadedness, headache, confusion, and even fainting. Long-term exposure to high CO2 levels can cause more serious health effects such as an increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases.

Hypercapnia is the medical term for high CO2 levels in the blood. Hypercapnic respiratory failure occurs when your body is not able to get enough oxygen from the air. This can lead to rapid shallow breathing, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing.

Hypoxia is a condition where there is a lack of oxygen in the body. Symptoms of hypoxia include confusion, fatigue, and lightheadedness. Long-term hypoxia can damage the brain and other organs.

Acidosis is a condition where your blood becomes too acidic due to high levels of CO2. Symptoms of acidosis include fatigue, confusion, and rapid shallow breathing. Long-term acidosis can damage your kidneys and other organs.

High levels of CO2 can also cause the body to become more sensitive to allergens, which can lead to an increased risk of asthma attacks. Additionally, high levels of CO2 can cause a decrease in concentration and an increase in irritability.

It is important to be aware of the symptoms of high CO2 levels and to seek medical help if you experience any of these symptoms. Early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent more serious complications.
