Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some advice. I've been recently diagnosed with advanced ankylosing spondylitis and I'm trying to learn more about the condition and its symptoms. Can anyone share their experiences with me and tell me what I should expect when it comes to the symptoms of advanced ankylosing spondylitis? I'd really appreciate any advice or information that anyone can provide.

Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) is a form of chronic inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joints. The condition typically causes back pain, stiffness, and fatigue. As the disease progresses, it can lead to more serious complications such as fusion of the spine and impaired lung function. Advanced ankylosing spondylitis is defined as a condition that has progressed to cause permanent damage.

Symptoms of Advanced Ankylosing Spondylitis

Pain: Advanced ankylosing spondylitis often causes severe and persistent pain in the spine, hips, and other areas of the body. The pain can range from mild to severe and is typically worse at night.

Stiffness: The stiffness associated with advanced ankylosing spondylitis occurs primarily in the spine and is often worse in the morning. The stiffness can cause difficulty moving and performing daily activities.

Joint deformities: Advanced ankylosing spondylitis can cause fusion of the vertebrae in the spine, leading to a rigid, hunched-over posture. It can also cause deformities in the hips, shoulders, and other joints.

Pulmonary complications: Advanced ankylosing spondylitis can cause inflammation and scarring of the lungs, leading to impaired lung function. It can also increase the risk of developing pneumonia.

Cardiovascular complications: Advanced ankylosing spondylitis can increase the risk of developing heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular complications.

Advanced Ankylosing Spondylitis is a type of autoimmune disorder that affects the spine and other joints in the body. It is characterized by pain and inflammation in the spine and other joints, leading to stiffness and fusion of the bones. Symptoms of advanced ankylosing spondylitis can vary from person to person, but typically include:

• Persistent pain and stiffness in the lower back and hips, sometimes with radiating pain down the legs
• Inflammation of the eyes (uveitis) and other organs
• Fatigue
• Muscle weakness
• Limited chest expansion due to fusion of the rib cage
• Curvature of the spine (kyphosis)
• Difficulty breathing
• Loss of appetite and weight loss
• Stiffness and fusion of the joints, especially the knees, ankles, and feet
• Swelling and tenderness of the heel tendons
• Difficulty sleeping

These symptoms can be managed with medications, physical therapy, and lifestyle changes. It is important for those with advanced ankylosing spondylitis to stay active and maintain a healthy diet, as this can help reduce pain and inflammation. Additionally, participating in regular exercise and stretching can help to reduce stiffness and improve mobility.

Advanced ankylosing spondylitis can cause a number of symptoms, including pain and stiffness in the lower back and hips, decreased range of motion in the spine and hips, and fatigue. Other symptoms may include difficulty breathing, chest pain, an abnormal curvature of the spine, and vision problems. In some cases, the inflammation caused by ankylosing spondylitis can lead to permanent fusion of the vertebrae, resulting in a rigid, immobile spine. Additionally, ankylosing spondylitis can lead to the formation of extra bone on the ends of the vertebrae. This extra bone may cause nerve compression, resulting in pain, numbness, and tingling in the arms, legs, and/or feet.

Advanced ankylosing spondylitis is a chronic and progressive form of arthritis that affects the spine. Symptoms of this condition include pain and stiffness in the lower back and hips, as well as difficulty moving and performing daily activities. Additional symptoms may include fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, and weight loss. Other signs of advanced ankylosing spondylitis can include weakened muscles in the abdomen and chest, decreased chest expansion, and difficulty breathing. In some cases, the spine may become fused, resulting in a hunched over posture. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to seek medical attention.

The symptoms of advanced ankylosing spondylitis can vary from person to person, but some of the most common signs and symptoms include severe pain in the spine and joints, decreased flexibility and mobility in the spine and other joints, fatigue, loss of appetite, and weight loss. Other symptoms may include chest pain, numbness or tingling in the extremities, difficulty breathing, dry eyes and mouth, and a feeling of stiffness in the morning. In some cases, there can be complications such as a weakened immune system, eye inflammation, and kidney stones. It is important to consult with your doctor to determine the best course of treatment for your condition.
