Types of Asphyxia
Asphyxia is a condition in which oxygen levels in the body are too low to support normal functioning. There are several different types of asphyxia, including:
Hypoxic Asphyxia: This type of asphyxia occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, but there is still some oxygen present. This can occur due to a decrease in air pressure or a decrease in the amount of oxygen available in the air.
Anoxic Asphyxia: This type of asphyxia occurs when the body is completely deprived of oxygen. This can occur due to a blockage of the airway or due to the presence of carbon monoxide or other toxic gases in the environment.
Chemical Asphyxia: This type of asphyxia occurs when the body is exposed to toxic chemicals, such as cyanide, that interfere with the body’s ability to use oxygen.
Mechanical Asphyxia: This type of asphyxia occurs when the body is prevented from breathing due to an obstruction in the airway, such as choking.
Suffocation: This type of asphyxia occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen due to an inability to breathe, such as in a smoke-filled room.
