Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to find out more about the mechanisms of strangulation and was wondering if anyone here could help shed some light on the subject? To be more specific, I'd like to know what the physical processes are that occur when someone is strangled and how they can be prevented. Does anyone know of any studies or research that has been done on this topic? I'd really appreciate any help or advice anyone has to offer.

Mechanisms of Strangulation

Strangulation is a form of physical asphyxiation that is caused by the constriction of the trachea and other structures of the neck. Strangulation can be caused by external pressure from the hands, rope, or cloth, or by internal pressure from the muscles of the neck itself. It is a dangerous form of violence that can be fatal.

External Pressure

External pressure is the most common type of strangulation and occurs when an object, such as a hand, rope, or cloth, is applied to the neck with enough force to restrict the airway and cause asphyxiation. This type of strangulation can be intentional or accidental and can be fatal.

Internal Pressure

Internal pressure is a less common form of strangulation and occurs when the muscles of the neck constrict the airway, such as during a seizure or spasm. This type of strangulation can also be fatal.

Indirect Pressure

Indirect pressure is another form of strangulation and occurs when an object, such as a pillow or piece of clothing, is placed over the face, restricting the airway and causing asphyxiation. This type of strangulation can also be fatal.

Strangulation is a serious form of violence and can be fatal. It is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of strangulation, and to seek medical attention immediately if you or someone you know is a victim of strangulation.
