Benign Tumors: An Overview

Benign tumors are noncancerous growths that do not spread to other parts of the body. They are typically slow-growing and usually cause no health problems. Most benign tumors can be removed surgically or can be monitored periodically by a doctor to ensure they do not become malignant. While benign tumors are generally not life-threatening, they can cause problems if they grow too large or cause symptoms such as pain or discomfort.

Adenomas
Adenomas are benign tumors that grow on the lining of an organ, such as the thyroid, pituitary gland or adrenal glands. They can cause hormone imbalances, which can lead to other health problems, such as fatigue or weight gain. Adenomas can be surgically removed if they become large enough to cause problems.

Fibromas
Fibromas are benign tumors made up of connective tissue. They are usually small and can appear anywhere in the body, including the skin, muscle, tendons, and ligaments. Fibromas are often removed surgically if they become too large or cause discomfort.

Lipomas
Lipomas are benign tumors made up of fat cells. They are usually slow-growing and can appear anywhere in the body. Lipomas can be monitored periodically or surgically removed if they become too large or cause discomfort.

Neurofibromas
Neurofibromas are benign tumors that form on nerve tissue. They are usually slow-growing and can cause nerve pain if they become too large or press on a nerve. Neurofibromas can be monitored periodically or surgically removed if they become too large or cause discomfort.

Cysts
Cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form anywhere in the body. They are usually benign and can be monitored or surgically removed if they become too large or cause discomfort.

Myomas
Myomas are benign tumors that form in the uterus. They can cause heavy menstrual bleeding, pain, or infertility. Myomas can be monitored or surgically removed if they become too large or cause discomfort.
