1. Appearance
The Apgar score is divided into five domains, which are Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, and Respiration (APGAR). Each domain is scored on a scale of 0 to 2 points, with a total score ranging from 0 to 10.
2. Pulse
The Pulse domain of the Apgar score assesses the heart rate of the newborn. A score of 0 is given if the newborn has no heart rate, 1 for a heart rate of less than 100 beats per minute, and 2 for a heart rate of more than 100 beats per minute.
3. Grimace
The Grimace domain assesses the newborn's response to stimulation. A score of 0 is given if the newborn has no response to stimulation, 1 for a weak response to stimulation, and 2 for a strong response to stimulation.
4. Activity
The Activity domain assesses the newborn's muscle tone and movements. A score of 0 is given if the newborn has no muscle tone or movements, 1 for some muscle tone and movements, and 2 for active muscle tone and movements.
5. Respiration
The Respiration domain assesses the newborn's breathing rate. A score of 0 is given if the newborn has no breathing, 1 for slow or irregular breathing, and 2 for good, strong, and regular breathing.
