Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT)
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a type of rapid heart rhythm that originates in the upper chambers of the heart. It is usually caused by an abnormal electrical circuit in the heart that causes the heart to beat too quickly. SVT can cause palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, and shortness of breath. There are three main types of SVT: atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, and AV nodal re-entry tachycardia.
Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common type of SVT. It is characterized by a very rapid and irregular heartbeat. AF can cause symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, weakness, and fatigue. It is usually treated with medications, lifestyle changes, or electrical cardioversion.
Atrial Flutter
Atrial flutter is a type of SVT that is characterized by a very fast, regular heartbeat. It can cause symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, and shortness of breath. It is usually treated with medications, lifestyle changes, or catheter ablation.
AV Nodal Re-entry Tachycardia
AV nodal re-entry tachycardia is a type of SVT that is caused by an abnormal electrical circuit in the heart. It is characterized by a very rapid, regular heartbeat and can cause symptoms such as palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, and shortness of breath. It is usually treated with medications, lifestyle changes, or catheter ablation.
