Strangulation is a type of asphyxiation that occurs when a person’s airway is blocked or constricted. There are three main types of strangulation, all of which can be deadly: manual strangulation, ligature strangulation, and choking. Manual strangulation occurs when a person’s neck is compressed by the use of hands, arms, or other body parts. Ligature strangulation involves the use of an object, such as a rope, cord, or wire, to strangle a person. Choking occurs when an object is forced into a person’s throat, preventing them from breathing. All three types of strangulation can be deadly and each should be taken seriously.
