I'm looking for help! I recently learned that strangulation is a major form of abuse and I'm trying to understand the clues of it. I'm looking for any information or experiences that people may have had and would like to hear what other people have to say about this.

Physical Signs of Strangulation

When a person has been strangled, there may be physical signs that bring attention to the strangulation. These physical signs can include:

Facial and Neck Injuries: Strangulation can cause bruising, scratches, or redness around the neck and face. There may also be signs of petechiae, which are small red or purple spots caused by burst capillaries in the face.

Internal Injuries: Strangulation can also cause internal injuries such as damaged blood vessels, nerve damage, or a collapsed trachea.

Voice Changes: Strangulation can also cause the voice to become hoarse or raspy due to the pressure applied to the neck and throat.

Behavioral Signs of Strangulation

In addition to physical signs, there can be behavioral signs that indicate a person has been strangled. These can include:

Anxiety: Strangulation can cause a person to become anxious and scared, as they may feel like they are in a vulnerable position.

Mood Changes: Strangulation can also cause a person to become more emotionally volatile, leading to sudden changes in mood or behavior.

Relationship Changes: Strangulation can also cause a person to become more isolated, as they may fear for their safety or be afraid to open up to others.

Diagnosing Strangulation

If a person has been strangled, it is important to seek medical attention as soon as possible. A doctor can assess a person for any physical signs or symptoms of strangulation, such as facial and neck injuries or internal injuries. They may also order tests, such as a CT scan or MRI, to look for any internal damage.

It is also important to talk to a mental health professional, such as a therapist or counselor, to assess for any behavioral signs or symptoms of strangulation. They can provide counseling and support to help the person cope with the trauma of the experience.
