Signs of Heart Failure
Heart failure is a serious condition in which the heart does not pump enough blood to meet the needs of the body. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and diabetes. The following are five of the most common signs of heart failure:
Shortness of Breath: Shortness of breath, or dyspnea, is one of the most common symptoms of heart failure. It is usually worse when lying down and is often accompanied by fatigue and restlessness.
Swelling: Swelling, or edema, is another common symptom of heart failure. Common areas of swelling include the ankles, legs, feet, and abdomen.
Fatigue: Fatigue is another common symptom of heart failure, and it can be debilitating. This fatigue is usually worse after physical activity or when the body is under stress.
Coughing: Coughing is another symptom of heart failure, and it is often worse at night. It is usually accompanied by a white or pinkish sputum.
Irregular Heartbeat: An irregular heartbeat, or arrhythmia, is another sign of heart failure. It is usually characterized by a rapid, irregular heartbeat.
