Signs of Lewy Body Dementia

Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a progressive and degenerative brain disorder. It is characterized by a decline in mental abilities including memory, thinking, and behavior. It is also marked by a variety of physical symptoms that can include tremors, rigidity, and changes in gait.

Hallucinations: Hallucinations are one of the most common and earliest signs of LBD. People with LBD may see, hear, or feel things that others do not. These hallucinations can be vivid and frightening and may involve people, animals, or objects.

Fluctuating Cognition : People with LBD often experience changes in their mental abilities from day to day. This can include confusion, difficulty concentrating, and changes in alertness.

Movement Disorders: Movement disorders are common in people with LBD and include tremors, stiffness, and changes in gait. These can make walking and other activities more difficult.

The three most common signs of Lewy body dementia (LBD) include cognitive decline, visual hallucinations, and fluctuations in alertness and attention. Cognitive decline may present as difficulty with memory, problem solving, and paying attention. Visual hallucinations are typically vivid and detailed, and may occur in the absence of other sensory input. Fluctuations in alertness and attention may present as periods of extreme drowsiness or confusion, and rapid shifts in energy and focus. Motor symptoms, such as tremors and stiffness, are also common in LBD.
