Hello everyone,

I am hoping to get some help on a medical question I have. I was recently diagnosed with rhinitis, and my doctor prescribed me antibiotics to treat it. I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with taking antibiotics to treat rhinitis? What kind of antibiotics have been effective for you? How long did it take for the antibiotics to start working? Any advice or stories you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help.

Antibiotics are not a treatment for rhinitis, which is an inflammation of the nasal lining caused by allergies or viruses. Allergies can be treated with antihistamines, nasal sprays and other medications, while viral rhinitis can be treated with decongestants, nasal irrigation, and steam inhalation. Antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections, which may cause secondary problems with rhinitis but are not the primary cause.

Allergies and Rhinitis

Rhinitis is an inflammation of the lining of the nose and is usually caused by allergies or viruses. Allergic rhinitis occurs when the body's immune system overreacts to a foreign substance, such as pollen or pet dander. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis can include sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and congestion.

Treatment Options

Allergic rhinitis can be treated with antihistamines, nasal sprays, and other medications. These medications work by blocking the action of histamines, which are chemicals released in response to an allergen that cause an allergic reaction. Decongestants, nasal irrigation, and steam inhalation can help relieve the symptoms of viral rhinitis.

Antibiotics

Antibiotics are medications that are used to treat bacterial infections. While antibiotics can be used to treat secondary problems caused by a bacterial infection, such as sinusitis, they are not effective against rhinitis, which is caused by allergies or viruses. If you have rhinitis, it is important to see your doctor to determine the cause and get the appropriate treatment.
