Hello everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with pancreatitis and I am trying to learn more about it. I know that the pain can be quite intense, but I am wondering what might make it worse? What aggravates pancreatitis pain? I have heard about certain foods and activities that can make the pain worse, but I am not sure which ones are true. Does anyone have any advice on what might make the pain worse? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pancreatitis pain can be aggravated by certain foods and activities, including fatty and fried foods, alcohol, smoking, and sudden or strenuous exercise. Eating high-fat foods increases the amount of fat in the digestive tract, which can cause inflammation and irritation of the pancreas. Alcohol can also cause inflammation in the pancreas, further exacerbating the pain. Smoking can also increase inflammation and pain. Lastly, sudden or strenuous physical activity can cause the pancreas to become overworked, leading to further pain and discomfort. To best manage pancreatitis pain, it is important to avoid these triggers and instead focus on low-fat, healthy foods, regular exercise, and abstaining from smoking and alcohol.
