I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand the Apgar score and whether or not it is used to determine if neonatal resuscitation is needed. I'm a new parent and have heard of the Apgar score but am not sure what it is or how it works. Can anyone explain this to me and share any personal experiences related to it? I'd really appreciate any help or advice.

Subtitle: Apgar Score

The Apgar score is a widely used tool to quickly assess the health of a newborn baby. It is used to determine if a newborn needs medical intervention or resuscitation. The Apgar score evaluates the baby's heart rate, respiration, muscle tone, reflexes, and color. The score is given at one and five minutes after birth, with the highest score being 10. A score of seven or higher indicates that the baby is likely healthy and does not need resuscitation. Scores lower than seven indicate that the newborn may need resuscitation and medical intervention.
