Is pancreatitis obvious

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience of pancreatitis? I understand it can be quite serious, but I am wondering if it is at all obvious? I know the symptoms can vary, but I'm wondering if it's something that you would be able to tell from looking at someone? Any help or advice from people who have either experienced pancreatitis or know someone who has would be greatly appreciated.
