Hello all,

I am a bit confused and need some help from someone who is familiar with the BIRADS 5 classification. I recently received the results of a mammogram and the BIRADS 5 classification was given. I was wondering if this means I definitely have cancer, or if this is just an indication that further tests or follow-up needs to be done? If anyone can provide insight or advice on this, I would really appreciate it.

BIRADS 5 is a classification system used by radiologists to communicate the findings of breast imaging to other members of the healthcare team. It is used to describe the degree of certainty that a lesion is malignant (cancerous) or benign (non-cancerous). A BIRADS 5 score indicates that the radiologist is certain that the lesion is malignant and requires further evaluation and/or treatment.
