Is AST more specific than ALT

"Hi everyone, I'm new here and I'm looking for some help. I recently heard about AST and ALT, and from what I understand, they are blood tests used to measure liver function. Does anyone know if AST is more specific than ALT? What are the differences between the two tests? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) and Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) are both enzymes used to measure liver health. AST is found in the highest amounts in the liver, so it can be more specific in detecting liver injury. However, ALT is more sensitive to changes in the liver and is more commonly used in liver health assessments.

Overall, AST is more specific for detecting liver injury, but ALT is more sensitive to changes in the liver. Both tests are used to assess liver health, and in combination they provide a more comprehensive picture of the state of the liver.
