Uses of Argon
Argon is the third most abundant gas in the Earth's atmosphere, making up 0.94% of the air we breathe. Despite its relatively low concentration, argon has a variety of uses in various industries, from medical and scientific to industrial and manufacturing.
Medical
Argon is used in medical procedures involving anesthetic gases, such as nitrous oxide, xenon and sulfur hexafluoride. Argon is also used to sterilize medical instruments and to provide a protective atmosphere for open surgeries.
Scientific
Argon is used in various scientific experiments and research. For example, it is used to detect low-energy neutrons in nuclear reactors, as well as to study the properties of matter at extremely low temperatures. Argon is also used to detect the presence of certain chemical elements in various materials.
Industrial
Argon is used in welding and other industrial processes, such as glass manufacturing. It is also used to create a protective atmosphere for certain industrial processes, such as vacuum arc remelting and thermal spraying.
Manufacturing
Argon is used in the manufacture of various products, such as light bulbs, televisions, computers, and other electrical devices. It is also used as a pressurizing agent in aerosol cans.
