Is anesthesia like real sleep

I'm wondering if anyone has experience with anesthesia and can tell me if it's like real sleep. I'm scared of going under anesthesia for an upcoming surgery and I'm looking for reassurance that it's not too different from just sleeping. Does anyone else have experience with this or know of someone who does? I'd really appreciate any advice or insight that others can provide.

What Is Anesthesia?

Anesthesia is a drug that numbs the senses of the body and mind. It is usually administered through an intravenous (IV) line or as a gas. It is used to reduce pain or discomfort during surgery or other medical procedures. Anesthesia can also help to make a person unconscious during a medical procedure.

Is Anesthesia Like Real Sleep?

Anesthesia is not like real sleep. While the patient may appear to be unconscious, they are actually in a state of altered consciousness. Anesthesia prevents the patient from feeling pain and discomfort, but they are still aware of their surroundings. The patient is in a state of unconsciousness, but they are not completely asleep. Anesthesiologists closely monitor the patient's vital signs to ensure their safety.
