"Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and I have a question that I'm hoping some of you can help me with. I was wondering how rare it is to have black eyes. I've heard of people having them, but I'm not sure how common they are. Does anyone have any insight or experience with this? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Black eyes are a rare eye color, with only about 8% of the world's population having them. While black eyes are not unheard of, they are far less common than other eye colors, such as brown, blue, or green eyes.

Genetics

The color of a person's eyes is determined by the amount of melanin in the iris. The more melanin present, the darker the eye color. People with black eyes have the highest amount of melanin in their iris, which gives them their distinctive dark color.

Geographic Distribution

Black eyes are most commonly found in people of East and South Asian descent. They are also found in people of African and Middle Eastern descent, and in some Mediterranean populations. In the United States, black eyes are most common among people of Hispanic or Latino origin.

Cultural Significance

In some cultures, black eyes are seen as a sign of beauty and are associated with good luck and fortune. In Japan, people with black eyes are sometimes referred to as "kuroi me," which means "black eyes." In some Native American cultures, black eyes are seen as a sign of strength and power.

Conclusion

Black eyes are a rare and unique eye color that can be found in people of many different ethnic backgrounds. While they are not as common as other eye colors, they still have a unique cultural significance and are associated with beauty, strength, and good luck in many cultures.

Black eyes are relatively uncommon in the general population, with only around 5-10% having them. However, they are more common in certain ethnicities, such as those from Central and South Asia, the Middle East, and some parts of Europe. In some areas of the world, black eyes are considered attractive and a sign of beauty. Some people with black eyes may also have unique genetic traits that lead to their eye color, such as a mutation in the OCA2 gene. Ultimately, black eyes are rare, but they can be found in certain parts of the world.
