Hi everyone,

I'm looking for help understanding what is considered to be extreme thinness. I am aware that there are certain weight ranges that are suggested by health professionals, but I'm not sure what constitutes extreme thinness. Is it a certain BMI? Is it an amount of weight loss/gain over a certain period of time? Does it depend on the individual's body type?

I would love to hear from others who have experience or knowledge in this area. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

What is Extreme Thinness?

Extreme thinness, or severe thinness, is a medical condition in which a person's body weight is significantly lower than what is considered healthy and normal for their age and height. Generally, a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5 is considered to be extreme thinness. Extreme thinness can be caused by a variety of factors, such as certain medical conditions, eating disorders, or physical or emotional trauma.

What Are the Health Risks Associated with Extreme Thinness?

Extreme thinness can have serious health risks, including an increased risk of developing certain diseases, such as osteoporosis, anemia, and certain types of cancer. It can also lead to weakened immune systems, which can make a person more vulnerable to infections. Extreme thinness can also cause hormonal imbalances, which can lead to a variety of physical and psychological symptoms.

How Can Extreme Thinness be Treated?

Treatment for extreme thinness is determined by the underlying cause. For example, if the cause is an eating disorder, then the treatment may involve psychotherapy, nutritional counseling, and/or medication. If the cause is a medical condition, then treatment may involve medications or other therapies to address the condition. In some cases, a person may need to gain weight in order to improve their health. In these cases, a doctor may recommend a balanced diet and exercise plan to help the person gain and maintain a healthy weight.

When discussing extreme thinness, it is important to understand that there is no single answer to this question as different individuals have different body types and weights. Generally speaking, a body mass index (BMI) below 18.5 is considered to be underweight, while a BMI below 17.5 is considered to be extreme thinness. Additionally, any weight loss that is rapid or without cause may indicate an underlying health issue or eating disorder, and should be addressed by a medical professional.

Extreme thinness is a state of dangerously low body weight. It is usually defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of less than 17.5. The BMI is calculated by dividing an individual's weight in kilograms by their height in meters squared.

In terms of weight, an individual is considered to have extreme thinness if they weigh less than about 40 kilograms for an average adult female or 50 kilograms for an average adult male. However, these figures can vary based on an individual's height, sex, and body frame.

Extreme thinness is a serious health concern, as it can lead to an increased risk of infections, infertility, osteoporosis, and other medical problems. In addition, it can be an indication of an eating disorder, such as anorexia nervosa. Therefore, it is important to seek medical attention if you or someone you know is at risk of extreme thinness.

Question: How much weight is considered extreme thinness?

Extreme thinness is generally considered to be a body mass index (BMI) of less than 16. This is usually associated with a drastic and dangerous weight loss resulting from an eating disorder or other health condition. It is important to remember that BMI is just an estimate and not an exact measure, and other factors such as age, muscle mass, and gender may also be important when assessing extreme thinness.
