Hello everyone,

I'm hoping to get some help from the forum on a topic I'm researching. I'm curious to know how many people have died from anthrax in the US over the years? I've done some research and found some statistics, but I'm not sure how reliable they are. Does anyone have any personal experience or knowledge on this topic? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anthrax is a serious infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis. In the United States, there have been fewer than 25 reported cases of anthrax since 2000. Of these cases, five people died. All five of these deaths were associated with intentional contamination of letters with anthrax spores. There have been no reported deaths due to anthrax since 2007.

There have been a total of 22 confirmed cases of anthrax in the United States since the early 1990s. Five of these cases resulted in fatalities, while the remaining 17 cases were treated with antibiotics and recovered. The fatalities occurred between 2001 and 2005, and all were linked to the same source of anthrax spores. The majority of the cases occurred in Florida, New York City, and New Jersey. Of the five fatalities, two were in Florida, one in New York City, and two in New Jersey.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there were five reported cases of anthrax in the United States in the 20th century. Of those five cases, three resulted in death. In 1976, a textile mill worker in South Carolina died of inhalation anthrax. In 1979, two individuals in Florida died after being exposed to anthrax-contaminated animal hides. In 2006, a 94-year-old woman in Connecticut died after being exposed to anthrax spores in a medical laboratory.

The number of people in the United States who have died from anthrax is relatively small. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), from 1955-2018, only 22 people in the United States have died from anthrax. Of the 22 deaths, only 11 were caused by inhalation anthrax, which is the most severe form of the disease. The remaining 11 deaths were caused by cutaneous anthrax, which is the less severe form of the disease.

The first two deaths from inhalation anthrax in the United States occurred in 1976. Two laboratory workers in a state laboratory in New Jersey were exposed to anthrax spores that had been accidentally released in the laboratory. The first case of inhalation anthrax in the United States since 1976 occurred in 2001, when five people in the Washington, D.C. area died after being exposed to anthrax spores that had been sent through the mail.

Overall, the number of deaths from anthrax in the United States is very small. However, the potential for a large-scale anthrax attack is still a concern for public health officials. The CDC recommends that individuals get vaccinated against anthrax and take steps to protect themselves and their families if they think they could be exposed to anthrax.

Unfortunately, the number of people who have died from anthrax in the United States is not known. Anthrax is a rare but serious infection caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis. Anthrax can be contracted in three forms, including cutaneous (skin), inhalation, and gastrointestinal. While most cases of anthrax are cutaneous, the inhalation form is most likely to cause death. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) reported 18 confirmed cases of anthrax in the US between 2001 and 2008, of which 5 were inhalation anthrax. These five cases were fatal, but it is possible that there were other cases of inhalation anthrax that went unreported or unrecognized.
