What Is HFMD?
HFMD, or hand, foot and mouth disease, is a contagious viral illness caused by a variety of Enteroviruses, most commonly Enterovirus 71. It is most common in infants and children under the age of 10, but can also affect adults. Symptoms of HFMD include fever, sore throat, fatigue, a rash on the hands and feet, and ulcers in the mouth and throat.
How Long Should You Quarantine for HFMD?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people with HFMD be isolated from other people for at least five days after their symptoms begin. This helps prevent the spread of the virus to others. People with HFMD should also stay home from work, school, and daycare. It is important to practice good hygiene, such as washing your hands often and avoiding contact with others, to help prevent the spread of the virus.
