How long can you interrupt CPR

Hello everyone,

I am looking for some help and advice about how long you can interrupt CPR. I am taking a First Aid course and this topic has come up and I am unsure of the answer. I would really appreciate any information from anyone who has experience in this area or who knows the correct answer.

Basically, I am wondering how long it is safe to interrupt CPR before resuming. Is there a certain length of time that is recommended before you start CPR again? Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is an important lifesaving technique used to restore circulation and breathing in someone who has stopped breathing or whose heart has stopped beating. As such, it is important to know when and how long CPR can be interrupted.

Interruptions in CPR

CPR can be interrupted for a variety of reasons. It is important to remember that the chest compression should be resumed as soon as possible. Interruptions can be categorized as either mandatory or optional.

Mandatory Interruptions

Mandatory interruptions are those that must occur when providing CPR, such as when checking for a pulse or administering rescue breaths. These interruptions should be kept as brief as possible, typically no more than 10 seconds.

Optional Interruptions

Optional interruptions are those that are not necessary to provide CPR, such as when providing chest compressions to a bystander or when the rescuer needs to rest. These interruptions should be kept as brief as possible, typically no more than 2 minutes.

Bottom Line

It is important to remember that CPR should be resumed as soon as possible after any interruption. Mandatory interruptions should be kept as brief as possible, typically no more than 10 seconds, while optional interruptions should be kept as brief as possible, typically no more than 2 minutes.
