How do you know someone is in a coma and not dead

I'm hoping someone can help me out. I have a friend who has been in a hospital for a few days and the doctors are saying they think she's in a coma, but I'm not sure how to tell the difference between a coma and death. How can I tell if she's in a coma and not dead? Is there anything special I should look for or tests that can be done? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The Difference Between Coma and Death

Signs of Coma

When someone is in a coma, they will be unresponsive, meaning they will not respond to any external stimuli. They are also likely to have their eyes closed, and may not be able to move. They may also have difficulty breathing, and their vital signs may be abnormal.

Signs of Death

When someone has died, they will be completely unresponsive, and their body will be limp. Their eyes will be closed, and their skin will be cold to the touch. Their breathing will be shallow and irregular, and their vital signs will be absent.

Diagnosis

The only way to definitively determine if someone is in a coma or dead is to measure their brain activity. If they are in a coma, their brain activity will be abnormally low, indicating a lack of consciousness. If they are dead, their brain activity will be absent.
