Signs and Symptoms
The most common signs and symptoms of a damaged pancreas include abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea, and vomiting. Other symptoms may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), dark urine, pale-colored stools, fatigue, fever, and rapid pulse.
Diagnosis
Your doctor will use a variety of tests to diagnose whether your pancreas is damaged. These tests may include a physical exam, blood tests, and imaging tests such as an ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. Your doctor may also recommend an endoscopic ultrasound or a biopsy of the pancreas to confirm a diagnosis.
Treatment
Treatment for a damaged pancreas depends on the cause and severity of the damage. Treatment may include medications to reduce pain and inflammation, fluid and nutrition support, and surgery to remove part of the pancreas. In some cases, a pancreas transplant may be necessary.
