There are a few different ways to get your red blood cell count back to normal. The first step is to identify the underlying cause. Once the cause has been identified, there are several treatment options that may be utilized, depending on the cause.

Dietary Changes

Certain dietary changes may be beneficial in restoring red blood cell counts back to normal. Eating foods that are high in iron, such as red meat, beans, and dark, leafy greens, can help increase red blood cell production. Vitamin B12 and folate, found in fortified cereals, can also be beneficial in restoring red blood cell counts. Additionally, eating foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as blueberries, can help protect red blood cells from damage.

Supplements

Taking supplements can also be beneficial in restoring red blood cell counts. Iron supplements may be recommended if iron levels are low. Vitamin B12 and folate supplements may also be recommended if their levels are low. Certain herbs, such as dandelion root, may also help increase red blood cell production. It is important to speak to your healthcare provider before taking any supplements.

Medication

In some cases, medication may be necessary to restore red blood cell counts. Medications, such as erythropoietin, can help increase red blood cell production. Other medications, such as corticosteroids, may be prescribed to treat the underlying cause of the low red blood cell count.

Blood Transfusions

In some cases, a blood transfusion may be necessary. Blood transfusions can help replenish red blood cells and restore red blood cell counts to normal levels. It is important to note that blood transfusions have risks, and your healthcare provider will determine if a blood transfusion is necessary.

It is important to speak to your healthcare provider if you are concerned about your red blood cell count. Your healthcare provider can help identify any underlying causes and determine the best course of action to restore your red blood cell count back to normal.
