Stop the Bleeding
If the person is bleeding, the first step is to apply direct pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or bandage. If the bleeding is heavy, use a thick cloth or towel to help stop it. It is important to apply pressure for several minutes to stop the bleeding. If the wound is still bleeding, elevate the injured area above the person's heart and continue to apply direct pressure.
Treat Shock
If the person is in shock, it is important to keep them warm and comfortable. Lay the person down and elevate their feet. Cover them with a blanket or coat to keep them warm. Do not give the person anything to eat or drink.
Call for Help
If the person is having trouble breathing or the injury is serious, call 911 immediately. If the injury is not serious, you may be able to call a family member or friend to take the person to the hospital.
Clean the Wound
Once the bleeding has stopped, the wound should be cleaned with soap and water. This will help prevent infection. If the wound is deep, you may need to cover it with a bandage or gauze.
Seek Medical Attention
It is important to seek medical attention for any serious injury, even if the person seems to be okay. The doctor can properly assess the injury and provide any necessary treatment.
