"Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice and personal insight on how narcissists cry. I'm curious to know if their crying is different than that of a non-narcissist, or if they are capable of crying at all. If anyone has had experience with narcissists and their emotions, I would really appreciate hearing your stories.

What Is Narcissism?

Narcissism is a personality disorder characterized by a grandiose sense of self-importance, a need for admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. People with narcissism often believe they are superior to others and have little regard for the feelings of others. They may also be excessively preoccupied with their own appearance and accomplishments.

How Do Narcissists Cry?

Narcissists may cry, but it is typically in a calculated manner. They may use tears as a manipulation tactic to gain sympathy or to get their own way. Narcissists may also cry when they feel vulnerable or exposed, as a way of deflecting attention away from themselves and onto someone else. Narcissists may also cry when they are angry, as a way of expressing their frustration and attempting to intimidate those around them.

Narcissists often have difficulty expressing emotion, so it can be difficult to tell if and how they cry. Some evidence suggests that they can be more prone to emotional outbursts than crying, such as becoming angry or lashing out. They may also cry in private, as they strive to maintain a strong and confident exterior. Narcissists can also be overly sentimental, crying at movies and other events, but this may be more of a performative act to make them appear more empathetic. Ultimately, the way a narcissist cries, and whether they cry at all, will likely depend on the individual.

Q: How do narcissists express their sadness and grief?

A: Narcissists often struggle to express their sadness and grief in a healthy way, and instead will often resort to emotional manipulation and outbursts of anger. They may also respond to sadness and grief by withdrawing from relationships and not communicating their feelings. Additionally, some narcissists may attempt to cover up their sadness and grief by acting overly confident and aloof. Ultimately, the way that a narcissist expresses their sadness and grief is dependent on their individual coping mechanisms.

Q: How do narcissists cry?

A: Narcissists often cry in an effort to manipulate or gain sympathy from those around them. Narcissists may also cry as a result of feeling slighted or misunderstood, or simply to gain attention. However, their tears may be short-lived, and the underlying emotions from which the tears spring forth often remain unresolved.
