Symptoms of Gastritis
Gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach lining and can cause a variety of symptoms, including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Other more serious symptoms may include a fever, bloody vomit or stools, and rapid heartbeat.
Symptoms of Pancreatitis
Pancreatitis is a condition that occurs when the pancreas becomes inflamed, and can cause severe abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and fever. It can also cause jaundice, as well as dark urine and light-colored stools.
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of gastritis or pancreatitis can be made through a physical examination, blood tests, and imaging tests such as X-ray, CT scans, and MRI scans. Your doctor may also perform an endoscopy, in which a thin tube is inserted through your mouth and into your stomach to take a look at the lining of your stomach and pancreas.
Treatment
The treatment of gastritis and pancreatitis depends on the underlying cause. If the condition is caused by an infection, antibiotics may be prescribed. If the condition is caused by a condition such as Crohn's disease, the treatment may include medications to reduce inflammation and suppress the immune system. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove a blockage, or to repair damaged tissue.
